Can You Fly With A Onewheel GT?
Onewheel GT is a two-wheeled, self-balancing electric vehicle created by Future Motion Inc. The Onewheel is controlled by leaning your body and intuitive gestures to turn and accelerate with the GT version.
No! You cannot fly with a Onewheel GT because it boats large batteries compared to the Pint and other models. Plus, it’s also heavier than the stable models, which makes this ride less maneuverable. Due to the heavyweight and bulky design, you cannot ride Onewheel on snow or ice or use it on a beach.
If you want to fly with Onewheel, you should choose one of the lighter models that quickly gets off the ground. For example, the Pint and Mini models are best for flying because they have a light frame.
They can lift as high as 12 feet and glide over uneven terrain quickly. The smart design of Onewheel also allows it to mount on metal surfaces such as railings, stairs, and bike racks.
But when it comes to flying, it’s much more challenging than riding. It takes lots of practice to get the hang of the ride and twirl the handle to push off from a hard surface like pavement.
You should also be able to build momentum in the air with your toes, just like surfing.
One major challenge I find in Onewheel pilots is landing safely on level ground. It takes a lot of practice to land safely, and it may take months before you can even complete it.
Though Onewheel doesn’t carry any pilots or passengers, you can fly with a mini KickScooter or the Power Scooter models. The good thing about these two small models is that they are lightweight and easy to fly.

What Does Onewheel GT Stand For?
Onewheel GT stands for speed and long-distance rides. Onewheel is a self-balancing electric scooter that you can ride forward, backward, or with your feet off the ground, allowing you to enjoy a smooth and comfortable ride.

Also, even though Onewheels are water resistant and can handle a little rainstorm or snowfall, please don’t use them in heavy rainfall or around pools because droplets could still seep through the cracks and cause corrosion.
If you need to clean your board, use a damp cloth and dry it off with a microfiber towel. Never submerge your Onewheel GT in water (unless you want to open it up yourself).
Remember, none of the official Onewheel vendors would warranty something that got damaged due to water.
So, if you ride through the rain or snow on purpose and then experience some problems down the road, there might not be a way for you to get covered under warranty.
Remember that water damage is covered under warranty if you have an accident and fall into a pool, lake, or water body.
I have ridden my board in the rain and snow for a long time without any problems. But I came across a Onewheel owner that said their boards got damaged (due to water getting inside) after riding in the rain or snow for a short period.
So, my conclusion is that Onewheel GT is water-resistant.
Does The Onewheel GT Have A Simple Stop?
Yes, The Onewheel GT will have the possibility to enable it to have a simple stop. You will implement it in the Onewheel application as the Onewheel Pint.
GTS features Simple Stop as an optional feature you can enable in the App. This is a very cool feature. It will also allow you to sail using just two buttons, rotating the mobile device 90°.
Here, you don’t need to control the throttle with your feet when using a simple stop, so you can focus on riding and enjoying the ride.
When I am on my Onewheel, I can determine whether or not I am in simple stop mode by pressing the pink button (forwards/backwards) on either side of the device and then checking what it has done on the wheel.
The wheel spins freely one way and instantly locks the other way. If there is no immediate wheel rotation, I know I can continue using my feet to control everything while in simple stop mode.
Interestingly, the wheel is only locked if facing you in simple stop mode. In contrast, this may be a little confusing since the wheel may spin in one direction or another while you are riding.
I feel this will take some practice when using simple stops and might not make sense at first glance as well.
I was also curious about how fast I can get out of simple stop mode (which I assume must occur when your feet are off the pedals). The wheel can accelerate incredibly fast while in simple stop mode.
It took me a while to get used to easily reversing directions and lifting my feet off the pedals once I was moving towards a destination. But I found myself quickly able to ride from end to end at speed because of it.
How Many WH Is A Onewheel GT?
Onewheel GT boasts 725WH of battery power and a range of 17-20 miles, making it one of the best electric skateboards on the market.
For those who want to ride a self-powered vehicle but don’t have extensive knowledge of how batteries work, 237WH is comparable to a standard car battery. After each ride, you can easily recharge your Onewheel GT with a standard household outlet.
The Onewheel GT is an awesome alternative to a gas-powered skateboard. However, it would be best to use caution when in the city due to the limited range.

Onewheel has got some great attachments for people who enjoy their Onewheel GT. You can get a great carrying case to carry your board and the battery and a universal handle to help you carry your board even when it isn’t attached to the battery.

How Do You Get Off Onewheel GT?
First, lift your heel to activate the power button. The Onewheel GT will turn on and offer a welcome screen that tells you what it is, how to install the Onewheel App, and how to calibrate the board.
After calibrating your board, it’s time to stand up on your Onewheel GT by resting your toes on four footpads.
When you stand, the Onewheel GT will want to ensure the board is level by sliding off into a “tilt” or “lift” position. When your feet are on the footpads, they will automatically return to a “stand-up” position.
Remember, Onewheel uses a combination of your weight and four footpads to control the board. The front two footpads are the primary action points you will use to control the Onewheel GT.
When you step on the footpads, they are mounted to hinged levers inside the deck. The hinged levers pull down on a rack attached to the back wheels via belt drives.
When the footpads are compressed and you shift your weight laterally, the levers will actuate and drive the belt along its cog. The belt drives are attached to a pair of larger wheels in the rear of the Onewheel GT.
The back wheels are independently driven by belts that connect them to motor sprockets on both sides of the rear axle. The cogs on these wheels can transfer a large amount of torque which is why they do not simply connect to the back belt directly.
The four footpads are mounted to hinged levers inside the deck. The hinged levers pull down on a rack attached to the back wheels via belt drives.
Can You Change A Tire On Onewheel GT?
The tools you need to change a tire include:
- A set of metric hex bolts and nuts, at least 12mm (1/2″) long.
- A ratchet with appropriate wrench bits.
- The special tire-changing kit with the correct parts for your bike.
- A small can of contact cement. You can use rubber cement or epoxy, or “black magic.” I used black magic to attach the new tire so it would not move inside the wheel.
- A torque wrench.
- A screwdriver removes the tire and the cable cover with the hex bolts.
- Some white lithium grease.
- Spray oil (optional)
And you’ll need a space big enough to work with your Onewheel. There’s no way around it: changing your tire will get messy, so work on some newspaper or something.
Step 1: Remove the Wheel
Put the bike on a secure bike rack (I use the attached clips on the handlebars of my Onewheel GT for this) and dismount it. Don’t worry about taking it off your drive train, as you will return it later anyway.
-Work to remove the wheel from your Onewheel frame.
-Remove the black wheel protection cap, which is just held with a screw.
There are three 8mm hex bolts that hold the wheel in place. Remove them by turning them counterclockwise with your fingers (you won’t be able to turn them back on).
Just keep track of which screws went where so you can reinstall them later in the correct places.
Once the screws are removed, you should be able to slide the wheel off and get it out of the way.
Step 2: Remove the Tire
The tire is glued on using an adhesive. When it dries, it forms a super-strong bond that holds it in place firmly but makes removal a challenge. It would be best if you had something strong to pry against to get it up from the fender and frame.
I used a screwdriver with a large flat blade (mine was about 3″) and enough force to remove the tire. You’ll have to pry the tire off using brute force from the top of it toward the side where the drive shaft goes.
The tire will probably not want to budge at all, but you can push a little harder, and it’ll eventually start to come up.
Step 3: Remove the Wheel Bolts
I had a different-sized wrench than the one I used to remove the wheel bolts, so I also had to use my hands to turn the wrench.
The hex-head bolt on the far right (looking from behind) goes through a hole in the rear axle assembly and into one of the spokes holding up your wheel.
To remove this bolt, you will need a wrench or a pair of pliers long enough to reach it — the hex-head is about 1 inch (25 mm) in length.
The hex bolt in the middle goes through two of the spokes. You’ll need a wrench or some pliers long enough to reach these.
The hex bolt on the far left goes through a hole in the front axle assembly and one of the spokes.
Step 3: Remove Your Old Tire
Your Onewheel uses a special tire-changing tool called a “Tire Boot,” which looks just like a normal tire boot except with a hole in it for the hex bolt to go through. It is held in place by a black M5 screw.
The kit comes with these parts. If you have one, you can use the hex wrench with your Onewheel, an Allen wrench (hex key), or an actual Allen wrench set.
The kit also comes with a grey “Tire Boot.” The grey part is attached to the yellow part, which is made of dense foam.
Place the Tire Boot onto the hex bolt into the hole in your old tire. The hole they give you is just large enough for this to fit.
Step 4: Remove Old Tire Adhesive
You’ll want to remove all of the old green adhesives before installing your new tire, as it can make your new tire stick badly otherwise.
You can use a knife to scrape the old glue or a small plastic putty knife with a mini-nose.
Step 5: Attach The New Tire
Make sure your hex or Allen wrench goes through all four spokes and into the drum of the wheel in which your bike is mounted.
You can’t use your hands to hold the Tire Boot in place and insert the hex bolt through all the spokes.
Step 6: Put The Wheel Back On The Bike.
Drop the Tire Boot back into place, align the holes with the holes in your axle assemblies and insert them all through their appropriate spokes.
Step 7: Tighten Hex Bolts
Once the wheel is in place, tighten the hex bolts using your ratchet and the correct size wrench. Refer to your bike’s manual if you’re unsure which size to use.
Step 8: Clean All Tools
Once you’re done working on your bike, wash off all tools and wipe down your Onewheel, then take a moment to admire how great it looks now that it has a new tire/wheel.
If you have a spare tire, I recommend taking the old tire, Tire Boot, and hex bolts to your local bike shop so they can reuse them on a new tire. Please keep track of which hex bolt goes with which wheel, as you will put them back in their original places.
How Long Does It Take To Charge A Onewheel GT Fully?
It takes approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes to charge a Onewheel GT from empty to full using the standard charger. When charging from a low battery state or when fully charged, it takes approximately 3 hours, 20 minutes, 2 hours, and 25 minutes, respectively.
Depending on rider weight and riding style, a fully charged battery will last for around 24-30 miles in varied terrain.
The standard charger has a power rating of 1500W, which, as you can see, is enough to charge a fully depleted battery in approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes.
With the use of clever charging algorithm, you can recharge the battery in 3 hours 20 minutes from depleted to full and 2 hours 25 minutes from full to fully charged.
In certain circumstances, the battery may boast full charge using a lower wattage charger, but the time taken may exceed the recommended 3 hours and 20 minutes.
If the battery has a reduced charge level, if the temperature is below 5 degrees centigrade, or if you have installed any accessories that may affect charging, it may take longer.
Any of these factors will slow down the process, take a few extra minutes to fully charge, and leave a small amount of energy in reserve to protect the battery for riding.
If you use these different chargers with your Onewheel, it’s worth remembering that there will be an extra delay in charging.
Onewheel GT Vs. XR Thickness And Clearance
Note that the Onewheel GT backpack and battery are identical in size to the XR. This means you won’t have issues getting your XR backpack and battery onto your GT board.
After removing both backpacks, the main difference you’ll see is that the Onewheel GT has larger tires wheels than the stock Onewheel XR.
If you want to ride a 9.5″ Onewheel complete, you’ll be looking at the dimensions of the Onewheel XR. If you’re looking to ride a 10″ Onewheel complete (59-millimetre contact patch), you’ll be looking at the dimensions of the Onewheel GT.
You’ll notice that the XR is about 2.5″ shorter than the GT when both are in their shortest configuration, with no battery installed and no deck installed.
The GT also has a larger deck than the XR to compensate for the larger tires. The Onewheel GT has an extended battery compartment of 27mm longer than the XR.
In a stock configuration, the Onewheel GT is 27mm longer than the XR (33mm vs. 30mm).

The Onewheel App will alert you when you reach 20 miles left as a warning that it might not make it back.
The GT is the first Onewheel with a height-adjustable deck. The XR does not have a height adjustment. As of now, it’s the only Onewheel to offer this feature.
Grip and Grip Tape: The new grip is 1mm thicker than the original grip and features two layers to give your hands an extra grip. It’s also snow-resistant.
The GT has the same sticky gripping tape with a matte finish but white. The XR comes with black grip tape.
Brake: The Onewheel App now displays a warning bar indicating your battery is running low. It will warn you to turn around and return home if you near zero percent.
And once you hit zero percent, it will emit a beeping noise to alert you that the board is now fully stopped.
Most Onewheels come with 100% braking power at full charge. The Onewheel GT comes with a new braking mode called ‘Soft Braking.’ The board will automatically enter into this mode when running low on battery.
This gave you extra range without burning too much battery and enhanced stopping power.
