Can You Put Flight Fins On A Fender?
Flight fins are a common feature on the bottom of most propeller-driven aircraft, and their design has several important characteristics.
They work like blade stabilizers to keep the aircraft from oscillating as it flies, but they also help to make the aerodynamic shape more efficient. This article will examine these features and other aspects of flight fin design for an airplane propeller and for Onewheel.
Yes! You can use two ways to put flight fins on a Fender. You can use the stock fender from future motion or the flight fins.
Future Motion Fender Type: This is not the normal Fender you would get from future motion. I am talking about a scooter fender that you put on your scooter to make it look like the stock one.
I tested it out on my Yama mita, and it worked with no problem, even though it did move around a little bit.
Flight Fins Type: You can use any scooter brand if they have flight fins. Remove the Fender that originally came with your scooter and put the flight fenders on. It was very easy to do; it took me less than 5 minutes to finish.
You can use any scooter as long as it has flight fins; I used a Yama mita because it was the heaviest scooter I had, and the Fender I used was from future motion.
The next test I did was to see if it could support the scooter’s weight without breaking. I tested it by riding my scooter with only the front wheel but with the fender and flight fins on.
I rode it for about 15 minutes and noticed no difference in performance, so there is no difference in weight.
The Difference between V1 and V2 Flights
V1 flights can be described as a more casual version of V2 flights. They are considered a cheaper alternative to the V2 flights but with the same level of luxury on board.
A V2 flight, or leisure flight, is when you fly in one of these larger aircraft that take off and land like a regular commercial airplane, but they also drop you off midway through the journey to make room for new people who are connecting onto your flight.
V1 flights can be as long as 7 hours or shorter than 2 hours and are often referred to as mini-V2 or mini-V flights.
V1 flights are usually around eight passengers or fewer, and they can take off and land like regular commercial airplanes. You can pre-book your V1 flight online or over the phone with one of our call center agents.
V1 flights usually have overhead compartments, a dining area, and a bar area to put you at ease during your flight and provide you with more comfort.
V1 flights are cheaper because they are shorter than V2 flights, and there is no planned layover.
While a V2 flight will have you stopping during your journey but with no layover time. Here is a table that shows more differences

Do Flight Fins Work With Fender?
Yes! You can install Flight Fins on the stock Future Motion Fender, or you can use the Flight Fins Fender System.
The Fender can be adapted to the Flight Fins by replacing the original Fender screws with 10-24 bolts and using a 10mm wrench. You may need a replacement washer if you are using regular hex wrenches, or go ahead and use a new set of washers.
If your bike has an aftermarket fork, you will need new bearings for the fork spacers as they are too small for the Flight Fins.
If you want to use the Flight Fins Fender System, you will need the following parts:
- 2x 10mm Spacers (Part Number: bbsf-spacer-10)
- 4x M4 Thumbscrews (Part Number: bbsf-thumbscrew-m4)
- 2x 5mm Spacers for the dropout tabs (Part Number: bbsf-spacer-5)
The Flight Fins system uses a wider dropout than the Standard fork, so you will need to replace your dropout with a wider one (standard 5mm dropout tabs)
The Flight Fins Fender System is assembled using the same mounting holes as the stock Fender.
Line up the holes on both sides and place the 10mm Spacers in between. Make sure that the Flight Fin body is closer to the front of the bike when you do this. Once it is in place, tighten down all four screws, ensuring they are evenly tightened.
Install the Bike Clamp as you would a standard Fender System: Place the clamp to the right of the bike and install four M4 Thumbscrews on each side for mounting to the dropouts.
Finally, mount your Flight Fins, and you’re ready to rock.
How Do You Install A Fender Flight?
The steps below will show you how to install a fender flight on a Onewheel.
First, find the empty mounting bracket where you will mount the fender flight. You may need to use a flat screwdriver or coin on one side to help remove or flip back the plastic cover for it to be mounted.
Next, use two 5mm bolts with corresponding nuts and washers (available at any hardware store) and mount them into their respective holes in the bracket.
Lastly, you will need to find a rubber band or cable tie that will fit your Fender’s middle. Attach this to a spot flat on the band (like on the corner). This will help to keep your Fender from moving side-to-side as you ride.
Next, Find some black foam at home (e.g., packing material or office foam), cut it into your desired length, and slide it onto the plastic mounting bracket you have just installed above.
Lastly, put the Fender against the bracket you have just installed and tighten the visible screws on the bracket with a screwdriver.
Now all you need to do is find a way to attach your Fender to your Onewheel and then ride.
This mounting method won’t transfer much of your power to your pedals when pedaling, but it will keep your feet from getting wet and help keep some of the sand, gravel, and water out of your OneWheel when riding on unpaved terrain.
How Do You Use Flight Fins?
First, make sure the wheel is turned sideways (with the front of the wheel facing towards you)
Make sure that you have a good grip on your handlebars.
- Place your non-dominant hand on your left foot and push down with your weight to ensure it pushes up.
- Push off the solid ground, not any surface that won’t provide a strong resistance for balance purposes, such as sand or grass.
- Immediately bring your dominant hand to the front of your handlebar and grip it firmly.
- Roll forward. It would be best if you were balancing your body by leaning forward slightly (this is so to push off from a solid surface)
- You’ll be balancing on your foot with your non-dominant hand on top of your left foot.
- Experiment with leaning forward and backward when you feel comfortable balancing to see how it feels.
- Your dominant hand should be holding the front of the handlebar for balance purposes.
- You may also find yourself resting your thumb/finger/hand on either of the bottom two pads on the handlebar. It’s a good way to get a feel for how the pads are used.
- Don’t forget to use your weight for balance purposes.
- You may move your non-dominant hand to the top of your foot during the balancing process if you wish.
When you feel comfortable balancing, it’s time to fly.
How Do You Mount Flight Fins?
The best way for you to mount your flight fins on your Onewheel will depend on your intended use and personal preference, but these are the most common ways that people do it:
- Use zip ties – This method is usually reliable, simple, and easy.
- Use industrial strength velcro – this method is faster and easier to do but can be slightly more annoying if you have to adjust your flight fins frequently.
- Double-sided tape is the best method for people who don’t want to use zip ties or velcro. It’s quick and cheap but not very durable, so it probably isn’t the best choice for skaters who are serious about their Onewheel and want something that will last a long time.
- Use a self-made tape mount – this method is great for skaters who want a product that is easy and cheap to make or for people who are in a creative mood and don’t mind doing work themselves.
- Any hardware store can get the necessary materials (double-sided tape, velcro strips, urethane foam, etc.). It’s quick and easy to make, and you won’t have to worry about reliability.
Are There Any Cheaper Flight Fin Alternatives
Yes! There are many cheaper flight fin alternatives in the market today.
Ironically, I had been riding a longboard for 2+ years and then tried out my first electric skateboard, which was a Blade Nano QX3. I wasn’t sure if I liked it until I tried Onewheel.
I couldn’t believe that it rode so much smoother than my longboard. This experience led me to buy a Onewheel eventually.
Onewheel is great for getting around town and zipping through a course of fire or a set of stairs. However, when I have been riding on it for a long time and go up a hill, it becomes difficult to turn around and start going down again.
This is where a flight fin can help. I’ve seen Onewheel riders use many flight fins, from the ones included in the original kit to long pogo sticks. Having tried out all these ideas, I have found some that have been proven to be more effective than others.
My goal was to find a flight fin that could improve my performance and add more fun to my riding experience. I found these 5 options that I liked and were priced under $40 each:

How Much Does It Cost To Replace A Fender?
Fender replacement costs between $500 and $1,500. However, medium repairs can run for $1,500 – $4,000. If the repair is on the larger side, your Fender boasts total damage, making it difficult to ride your Onewheel.
In this case, it can cost you up to $6,000 to get your Onewheel back on the road.
Before you can put a dollar sign on how much it will cost to fix a fender, you need to decide if you will fix your Fender or if you want a new one.
If your Onewheel has been damaged in an accident, the Fender is not salvageable. In this case, it costs less to buy a new fender. You will also save on repair labor costs if you buy a new fender instead of fixing your current one.
Even though most fenders are not repairable, it’s possible to repair Fender by utilizing fiberglass. Fenders are normally made of fiberglass and replaced through a mold.
The mold cut-out pattern is then used to make replacement parts. You can do this in one or two hours, and you will be ready to ride again in no time.
Aluminum Fenders are much more expensive than any other, costing $350 – $500 for a simple replacement. They offer protection against crashing into trees or other debris. If a tree falls on the Fender, it will not break, and you will not get hurt.
Can A Bent Fender Be Fixed?
Yes! To fix this, place the board on a flat surface and some weight. Make sure that the wheel is swung away from the bent part of your Fender. Place two pieces of plywood over each side of your wheel and attach them using screws or nails.
This will be your fender material. As soon as the weight is removed from the board, it will return to its proper position. For this to work properly, both pieces of plywood should have their edges parallel.
Also, do not use a sharp pencil. Make sure the wood is clean and free of dust on all edges, corners, and rubber areas of your wheel or Fender before you attach it with screws or nails.
Another option would be a heavy blanket nailed down at two corners on each side of your wheel and straight pins in the remaining four corners. You could then place your OneWheel over this blanket.
This method is best when done outside or on a flat service with something to put weight on if doing it inside.
To avoid further damage, keep your OneWheel out of the sun as much as possible. Sun exposure can cause your Fender to deteriorate over time and may weaken its structure. It is best to keep the board inside during extremely hot weather.
Will Flightfins Work With The Onewheel GT?
Yes, They will work if you attach them to the Future Motion Fender Kit stock. The only modification required is drilling four holes in the Fender to attach the current flight fin design.
The minifigs are designed to work with the stock fender and use a rubber adhesive to attach to the surface of the Onewheel.
The FlightFins utilize an adhesive that requires an open-cell foam pad placed under the fin. Once the pad is placed, the adhesive holds the fin in place.
The strong adhesive will significantly increase the fin’s hold on the Onewheel.
Another modification you can do to use the custom FlightFins v2 is drilling holes in the Fender at an angle. This allows you to easily shift the fins into a “one o’clock” or “two o’clock” position if desired.
The FlightFins have a strong adhesive that allows various modifications to the Onewheel. For the fins to not interfere with the Onewheel’s sensors, keep an even surface underneath them.
There are several ways of doing this. You can put on a skateboard grip tape pad, cup-a-saucer, or double-sided tape.
Flight Fin Extenders ( How They Work)
Flight fin extenders boast screwing between the FlightFenders and the FlightFins. They are for use with most FlightFenders to create a longer running surface.
The flight fin extender is placed between the two components of a FlightFenders and is used to widen the space in the center of your ski or snowboard. They come in different sizes and shapes and are created to fit by the manufacturers.
Some manufacturers have a large center slot while others have center inserts sticking out the bottom of the FlightFender. Otherwise, they don’t affect anything.
All of the fin extenders work well. Since they are not structural parts, they are lightweight and offer no effect on performance.
Another thing to consider is that by using a fin extender with your FlightFenders, you will be changing your ski or snowboard profile. You should always make sure that your board is the correct size for your size boots and bindings.
A normal FlightFin (with no extender) will extend about 1-inch along the center of the board. Using the extender will move your fin up another 1-inch. This equates to about a 2-inch increase in the size of the surface area you are using to plane on.
This can be a big advantage for split boarders who use shorter skis, like 178cm or shorter.
Your plan amount is also affected by how far out your bindings are positioned on your board. A longer board with different bindings significantly affects how much extra fin you get.
Flight fins give more surface area. A larger fin will give you a bigger effect on how much you plan. They are not structural and lightweight and have no impact on your board’s flight.
