JW Pint – Onewheel Pint Battery Upgrade
The JW Pint is a new battery upgrade that requires no soldering, installation, or rewiring. You remove the battery from your Onewheel and pop in the JW Pint, which attaches to the bottom of your board.
The battery is the same size and shape as the current battery on your board, allowing you to charge normally. Also, it only weighs 11oz which is nearly half the weight of your Onewheel stock battery (23oz).
Even though this is an 11 Ah battery against Onewheels 7.5 Ah, I’ve been able to get a similar range as my stock battery (20mi compared to my stock 18mi), and more importantly, this is the only chance I’ve had on my board of it exceeding 19.5 mph.
I’ve stepped on this board, accidentally dropped it, rode it down 20-degree hills, and had no problem with the new battery. In regards to the battery pack itself, it feels solid, is made of good material, and has a nice rubberized finish.
The weight and the feel of riding with this battery are nearly identical to my stock, but there are a few key differences.
The board is slightly faster (especially downhill) due to the higher voltage (36V) and Amp-hour capacity (11Ah) of the new battery.
Also, I haven’t had one issue with my battery indicator since installing this JW Pint, whereas, with my stock, I was constantly checking it for signs of over-charge or under-charge.
How Many Mah Is The Onewheel Pint Battery?
The Onewheel Pint battery is a lightweight 750-watt-hour lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 148 Wh hours.
As this number specifies, the Onewheel Pint will deliver 18.6 Ah of power every 2hrs charging time, assuming you do not let the battery discharge below 10%. The Onewheel’s consumption varies depending on your riding style.
Boarding and carving will use more power than cruising along flat ground. Using the Onewheel with the motor off does not drain any power from the battery, but you will lose some power to inefficiencies in the electronics.
This means the Pint is perfect for cruising on flat ground with no wind, but exercise caution when riding in strong winds.

If you ride the Onewheel until it dies, you can recharge the battery before you ride again with a standard wall outlet or car charger.

The installation is easy and will probably take less than 30 minutes. However, it will void your warranty:
First off, you will need to purchase a new battery. You have a couple of options here. You can buy either the JW Pint or the BBSHD upgrade battery. I do not recommend any other brand of 36V 8AH or larger replacement battery for the Onewheel Pint.
This battery also comes with a charger: (I recommend buying an extra charger since they are very useful. You will also want to get a mounting bracket for the BBSHD battery, as it does not come with one.)
If you want to install a JW Pint upgrade kit, then you’ll need this JW Pint upgrade kit. This battery also comes with a charger.
Now that you have the battery, install it. You will need to remove your Onewheel Pint and cable. Just pry the top of your Onewheel Pint off.
Once you have removed your Onewheel Pint, use a flathead screwdriver to remove a large black plastic cover plate over your battery connector.
Pop the connector cover plates off with a small flathead screwdriver. Once you have removed the connector cover plate, remove the black plastic cable insulator and install your new battery pack.

You can then reassemble your Onewheel Pint by reversing these steps. Remember to put the cable insulation back on after putting your Onewheel Pint together.
How Do I Extend My Onewheel Range?
First, plug an external battery into your Onewheel using the charging port on the back of your board. Now, plug the end of the external battery into a power source and turn it on so that your Onewheel can charge up to 100%.
Now you should be able to ride much further without worrying about running out of juice.
It is worth noting that charging with an external battery will not always be as fast as charging with your original charger because it takes time to transfer power from one device to another.
Also, when charging with an external battery, there is a chance that your board will not recognize that it has been connected to an external power source.
To fix this, you must reboot your board by holding the mode button and simultaneously pressing the trigger while the battery is plugged in.
How Do I Extend The Battery Life On My Onewheel?
Step 1: Charge your Onewheel
Onewheel comes with a charger designed only to be used with the Onewheel. That said, you can use it to charge any other standard USB charger (the same chargers you use for your computer). Just make sure you use the included charger.
Step 2: Buy Another Battery
You can get another battery for less than $20. It’s about the pack of gum in size and weighs about 12 grams. It will take over for your original One that came with your Onewheel, but the extra charge from 7Ah to 9Ah will give you more range.
Step 3: Avoid Full Discharges
When you’re traveling long distances and don’t have the opportunity to stop and charge up, try to avoid complete discharges of your board. Try to recharge it a little before that 30% mark.
The battery is designed to protect itself, letting you use more of its power earlier on in your riding session and less later on.
Step 4: Ride slower
The faster you go, the more energy you’ll use to propel yourself forward. Slowing down slightly can extend your battery life considerably.
Step 5: Ride In Eco Mode
If you’re cruising around, try turning on eco mode. This will save you energy by allowing your board to travel at a slower speed. It’s slightly less responsive, so if you’re getting into a groove and carving up a hill, turn it off again.

How Big Is The Onewheel Pint Battery?
The stock Onewheel Pint boasts a 148Wh internal battery. The battery cells are oriented in different directions depending on which side the rider is standing (or sitting, for that matter).
The red, yellow, and green cells go on the top side of the board if you’re facing forward.
Yellow, blue, and black cells go on the bottom if you’re facing forward. The battery is fairly heavy (365g) but not significantly heavier than a comparable Casio G-Shock watch. The battery is rated for “100 charging cycles”.
Charging cycles are equal to complete full drains of the battery. For example, if you drained the battery and then charged it completely five times, that would be five full charges or 5 charging cycles (not 1 charging cycle).
Not sure if that’s a standard rating in the industry, but that’s how Onewheel is rating it. I charged it once, and the battery level indicator went from 1-4 dots to 4-4 dots.
I imagine my “initial charge” of the battery was 0% instead of 100%. Interestingly, the user manual indicates that you shouldn’t let the board completely drain before recharging. It says to plug it in as soon as you see flashing LEDs (red or yellow).
This makes sense to me and aligns with how some electric bikes recommends.
The manual recommends plugging the charger into a separate wall outlet instead of the same one your board charges off of because it “reduces energy consumption” by the board itself.
I think that’s a good call because most chargers are designed to be plugged in 24/7, so they don’t have built-in protection circuits like laptops have.
How Many Cells Are In A CBXR Battery?
CBXR boasts 18650ga battery cells. These are the best and most efficient cells on the market. Surprisingly, they’re not all that expensive, either.
CBXR is a newly released battery that outperforms any other lithium-ion battery on the market – it’s more powerful and has a longer lifespan.
Eighteen thousand six hundred fifty batteries are the most popular size, so you’re probably wondering if there’s a different size. Luckily, there is, and it’s called the 18500.
The 18500 is the same as a 18650, but it uses smaller cells, which have less surface area and thus less energy density.

XR is not as safe as GT. XR’s deck only has one gyroscope, and it sits directly underneath the footpads, which means if the rider slips off the back of the board, there is very little that can be done to protect against a high-speed fall.

Like other power-engineered devices, when Onewheel’s battery dies, you can charge it by plugging it into an outlet or powering it with an external power source like a car adapter, portable battery pack, or solar charger.
Firstly, the Onewheel battery has a built-in protection circuit to ensure the rider’s safety and self-balance electric skateboard. So, you don’t worry about getting hurt from electric shock.
Secondly, on the bottom side of the Onewheel hub motor/battery pack is an LED and LED light turns green when charging is complete.
When charging ends, LED turns off and remains off while the board is still in the middle of riding.
In other words, it’s a built-in protection circuit that turns off the power automatically once the battery is fully charged and all safety conditions meet. This way rider won’t get hurt from electric shock.
This may indicates that the board has been charging for more than two minutes, which means it has reached the maximum allowed time for riding. The green LED light indicates the battery is fully charged.
So, before leaving your dock or ground, ensure all Onewheel batteries are fully charged and safe to avoid any inconvenience.
