Soflow Lou Boards: Should I Buy It

It’s exhilarating to ride an electric skateboard. In addition to their convenience, electric rideables are advantageous since they are friendly to mother earth.

As the popularity of electric boards continues to soar, advanced technology is finding its way into the boards.

One of the latest technology-packed board manufacturers today is SoFlow’s Lou.

Founded in 2016, Lou turned heads in the skateboard industry in a short period. From the Kickstarter campaign that raised about $300,000, the company has never turned back.

Currently, there are 3 SowFlow’s Lou boards, including Lou 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. Lou 3.0 is the high-end board by Lou.

This is a good board that will not allow you to regret your purchase. Before I cover Lou 1.0 boards, let me mention a few things about Lou’s latest board, Lou 3.0.

Lou 3.0 is one of the smallest electric skateboards featuring great features. The box comes with your Lou 3.0 board, a hand-held remote controller, a charger, and documentation.

This is a light board, weighing 11 pounds and boasting a range of 12-15 miles. The range will depend on rider weight, riding surface, riding characteristics, among other factors.

Your Lou 3.0 board has a top speed of 20 mph, making it an ideal board for speed lovers.

Additionally, your Lou 3.0 board has a high-capacity battery that will be charged in less than 2 hours. All three Lou boards are water-resistant, with an IP rating of IP54.

Like many electric skateboards in the market today, all Lou boards cannot cope with water effectively.

However, with Lou boards, you can have a level of water resistance, although I would suggest you avoid water as much as you can.

Water can damage your board to the point that it becomes unusable.

Lou Board 1.0 Range

While many boards have major problems with water resistance capabilities, it’s not so with Lou board 1.0. But this is not the only good thing about this fantastic board.

When it comes to range, this $449.00 worth sleek and durable polyurethane board boasts a range of 6-9 miles (10-16 km).

When you couple this with its ability to do a maximum speed of 28 km/h, thanks to its lightweight of 10.6 lbs (kg).

You will easily accept that your Lou 1.0 board is a board to beat at such a price.

Lou board 1.0 is the revolutionary board that will get you where you are going, practice some tricks or go for a cruise.

This is a board that combines effective transportation with all the freedom you can ever get in skateboarding.

Any rider will readily agree that before, there has never been an electric ride-on product featuring motorized wheels that are easily swappable.

Not to mention the speed at which you can do this swapping. Consequently, Lou enjoys a longer lifespan in addition to a continually fresh ride.

Your Lou board 1.0 gets its power from the double drive, making it effectively compete with most electric short boards on the market while offering a unique simplicity and elegance.

What’s more, your Lou board 1.0 has a silent motor, making it possible even to hear the rush of the wind as you ride.

And due to its water-resistance capabilities, you can easily ride in most weather conditions.

Lou Board 1.0 Battery

The Lou board 1.0 is powered by a single motor whose maximum power is 1.5 kW. This gets its juice from a Lithium-ion 36V 2.2 Ah battery.

Lou is easy to use. Your Lou board 1.0 comes complete with a two-year warranty that covers all non-electronic components of the board.

Still, you will get to enjoy a one-year warranty on the battery and motor.

Since the battery is among the most expensive components of any electric skateboard, you do not want to shorten the lifespan of your battery.

Still, you want it to keep running for as long as possible. Generally, skateboard batteries will get damaged because being used and stored under the wrong temperature conditions.

If you want to enjoy longevity with your Lou board 1.0 battery, ensure that you use your board within a temperature range of 10.30℃.

Otherwise, your battery will age quickly due to extremes in temperature. Extremely low or extremely high temperatures result in lower battery capacity.

With reduced battery life, your board’s range gets shortened as well.

When it comes to charging, the first thing to remember is that all-electric skateboards are usually not fully charged when being shipped out.

This is for safety reasons to avoid any explosions. However, once you receive your Lou board 1.0, the best thing to charge it first.

And the good thing about your Lithium-ion battery is that you are free to charge it any time. Only ensure that you develop a tendency to charge it to maximize the battery life fully.

Still, avoid charging the battery after it’s fully drained, as this results in excessive discharge of the lithium battery, shortening the battery life.

Again, charging an overly-discharged battery is a potential safety hazard.

Therefore, if you intend to stay without using your board for a long time, make sure that you have stored it in a cool, dry room.

In addition to this, ensure that the battery is fully charged, recharging it after every 20 days.

Lou Board Review

The Lou board comes as one of the hottest new electric boards on the market today. Lou boards are one of the lightest boards out there.

Due to its small form factor, it’s very portable. Again Lou boards have a replaceable battery that can easily be changed without much of a problem.

This makes Lou boards a good value to buy. And if you look into the aesthetics, the sleekness will take the day!

However, there are a few things that are not so cool with Lou boards. Yes, nothing lacks its shortcomings, and Lou boards are no different.

Due to the wheels’ fixed, you will be getting a stiff ride from your board. And because the board is shorter than most of the other boards, it’s hard to maintain stability at high speeds.

On the other hand, the high shipping costs when you order from Switzerland don’t help. Again, customer service is suspect, and there are delays.

Therefore, if you plan to buy any Lou board, you will be wise to factor in these issues before you commit your money.

Your Lou boards, 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0, have a single hub motor, single hub motor and double hub motor, respectively.

Both Lou board 1.0 and 2.0 have a single hub. However, Lou board 3.0 has dual hub motors. Lou boards 1.0 and 2.0 have the same top speed of 17 mph.

On the other hand, Lou board 3.0 has a top speed of 21 mph. When it comes to battery power, Lou board 1.0 and 2.0 have a 79 Wh battery.

On the other hand, Lou 3.0 has a battery whose capacity is 108 Wh.

When it comes to range, you can expect a range of 9 miles from both Lou 1.0 and 2.0, while your Lou 3.0 will give you a range of 15 miles.

While it might seem like Lou 1.0 and 2.0 are almost identical, this is not necessarily true regarding weight.

Lou 1.0 and Lou 2.0 weight 11 lbs and 10 lbs, respectively. But Lou 3.0 weights 12 lbs. All three boards have the same board dimensions measuring 66 x 26 x 13 cm for deck length.

Lou Board Battery

Both Lou 1.0 and Lou 2.0 share the same battery since they have the same motor. A 36V, 2.2 Ah battery powers the 1.5 kW motor.

This is the setup behind the two board’s ability to enjoy a top speed of 28 km/h or 17 mph. And this is no low speed for a 26-inch board.

On the other hand, Lou 3.0 has more powerful 3 kW motors. These are powered by a 36V, 3 Ah battery that allows the Lou 3.0 board to enjoy an impressive speed of 35 km/h (21 mph).

As I said before, the most crucial component in any electric skateboard is the battery.

The 79 Wh replaceable battery will offer you 9 miles, a good range considering how small the board is.

Indeed, the size of the board makes it impossible to fit a bigger battery and significantly increase the range.

But this is also good since you will easily fly with your board without much problems if you have the required paperwork ready.

As you might know, it’s not allowed to fly with batteries beyond 160 Wh.

The two major players determining whether you can fly with your skateboard or not are the TSA and the FAA using the rules governing what is permitted when flying.

Even with the bigger LOU 3.0, which has a bigger 108 Wh battery (needed to power the double motor setup), you will still be able to fly with your skateboard without any issues.

Lou board App

Amazingly, all Lou boards come with the Lou board app for installation on your smartphone. With the wonderful app, you can customize your board’s performance whichever way you want it.

You also get to choose your speed if zooming 21 miles an hour is more than you can handle on a skateboard.

This is understandable, considering the short size of the board. Still, the app is useful in using GPS services as it is GPS sensitive and enabled.

Consequently, when it connects with your board, you automatically know your board’s location. This is also handy in locating your board in case of theft.

What Does The Board Size Mean To You?

In most instances, board size is closely tied to board weight. Due to the small size of the board and the materials that make the board, this board can never be too heavy.

Consequently, it’s an ideal board for urban dwellers who are forced to pick up their board many times, sometimes not even going beyond 15 miles.

Since Lou boards are among the lightest, taking it on the subway/tram/tram/bus or train is no problem.

Compare this with some boards like the Blink S2 or Evolve GT line, and you will agree that  LOU boards are much more portable!

Indeed, Lou boards are decent boards and will take you where you need to go at a decent speed, without having to worry about a 20 lbs block you would otherwise be carrying around.

Lou Board Remote

Lou boards are easy to use. The three boards come with their remote controls, which are compatible with the LOU smartphone App.

Once the connection is established, your riding experience is revolutionized due to the liberty to customize your riding preferences.

Your Low board responds to commands you execute from the remote. Among many other benefits, Lou boards’ electric remote is handy for viewing your board stats.

While a remote is a good thing, you will need to be careful when reversing. This is because you can reverse the board when you intend to move forward.

This is a very risky confusion, and it’s best never to use the reverse function. This is the most disappointing thing about Lou boards.

I have fallen twice because of this feature and hoped that it never existed in my remote. Again, the remote feels rather simplistic, like a toy in your hands.

This makes me wonder how the manufacturer can mess with such a vital part of the setup. I hope this will be addressed soon as it is the only serious shortcoming of this wonderful board.

SoFlow boards are among the best boards you will find out there. Their size and power are some of the things that speak for the boards.

Additionally, the remote control comes in handy in controlling the boards.

Hi! I' am Tom. I faced many questions from customers about different products, and there was hardly any help on the internet. After learning all the things about these products as a manager the hard way, I decided to start a blog and help other people.
