What Is a Onewheel XR Range Extender?

The Onewheel XR range is a great new way to experience long-distance travel using a hoverboard.

The speed can reach up to 18 miles per hour, the battery lasts up to 45 minutes, and its light weight makes it easy to transport from place to place.

This board is perfect for anyone wanting something new in urban transportation or looking for a way to spice up their commute.

Onewheel XR range extender is a device that helps in boosting your Onewheel XR range, extending the uninterrupted distance you can ride. Its purpose is to help you cover greater distances without running out of battery or needing to swap out batteries.

The range extenders boost power by motors and convert kinetic energy into electricity. This feeds the power back into the battery that runs your board.

They’re small and lightweight, so they will blend in with any backpack or bag while offering additional protection from bumps and other impacts while on the go.

Also, they take up very little space in your suitcase because of their small size, and they’ll sit safely in the bottom of your bag while riding.

Best of all, they are completely safe, and you don’t have to worry about them hitting anything while riding.

The XR range extenders are an excellent accessory for any Onewheel lover, especially those who have longer commutes or only sometimes have time to recharge their battery before going out on the board.

These devices also provide an additional power source when you may get stuck at work late and need more time to make it home without riding.

How Do I Extend the Range On My Onewheel XR?

The first method of extending the range on your Onewheel is plugging an external battery into your Onewheel through your charging port.

This will allow your Onewheel to have enough energy to last for a longer distance.

Second, you can purchase a 1200mAh battery or an upgraded XR controller from Onewheel with a built-in battery.

While these will only extend your range for about 15 minutes, it’s still useful when you need more power but don’t want any additional weight on your board.

The third method of extending your range is by using an extension cable. This will give you more power but in a much larger form factor.

Onewheel Wear App and the XR

This fourth method requires you to build new battery boxes for your Onewheel. The existing battery boxes are too small to hold bigger batteries.

This fifth method uses a single-board computer like the Raspberry Pi to control your Onewheel. This will allow you to use much bigger batteries without building new battery boxes.

The final method allows you to extend your range using a hub motor instead of a rear wheel.

Hub motors are much more efficient and powerful than regular motors to get the most power possible from their batteries.

What Is the Best Setting For Onewheel XR?

20 PSI is the ideal tire pressure for Onewheel XR, though it can range from 15-25 PSI. Lower tire pressure is better for rougher terrain, while higher pressure is better for smoother surfaces or steep inclines.

Although there are many different terrain types, you will typically ride the same terrain repeatedly.

The secret to good riding is to know how your Onewheel rides on a particular type of surface before you even get on it.

Standard settings for Onewheel XR: 20 PSI on smooth surfaces or 15 PSI for hard-packed dirt, sand, or frozen snow.

If you have trouble with traction or want more control, try increasing the tire pressure by 5 PSI. If you wish to float more over soft surfaces or climb sloped surfaces, try dropping the tire pressure by 5 PSI.

While riding, if you notice that your tires are spinning out or not rotating, it is because of high tire pressure.

You can lose speed quickly when traction is lost, so keeping your tire pressure low will help keep control of your Onewheel during all weather conditions.

How Cold Is Too Cold For Onewheel?

You cannot ride your Onewheel in the extreme cold despite your best efforts to protect it. You must keep it at 60°F (15°C) or above to be safe to ride.

The battery will drain quickly as your Onewheel cools, and temperatures below 40°F (4°C) will freeze the battery and other electronic components.

1200mAh battery

Cold weather is a killer for all sorts of electronics. No matter how good you are with insulation, your Onewheel can’t function well enough when it’s cold outside.

It doesn’t matter how much you’ve spent on expensive gear; it only works when it’s dangerously cold.

So, leave your board at home when the temperatures dip below freezing, and don’t even try to ride at temperatures below 40°F (4°C).

A 40-degree temperature is an ideal level for your Onewheel to perform well. At 60 degrees or higher, you can safely ride your Onewheel anytime, whether it’s raining, snowing, or the sun is shining.

If you live in a climate that gets cold, you’ll need to ride your Onewheel a few degrees warmer.

Since your Onewheel will get colder during winter riding conditions, I recommend riding at 48 degrees or above as the ideal temperature for your Onewheel during the summer months.

Of course, if it’s raining or snowing, get out of the elements, no need to freeze in the rain or ride through the snow in below-zero temperatures.

How Do You Stop Onewheel’s Wobble?

Take BreaksWhen you feel Onewheel in your toes, get off and walk for a few seconds.
When you must stop, lean back on your arms and lower them flat.

If you get up quickly when Onewheel is engaging traction, try turning it 180 degrees, so the front wheel is now facing forward.

Don’t move your feet or balance too much when visiting water or other slippery surfaces; this can cause wobble and instability.
Soften The Wheel SlicksPut your easy-slick wheel on one of the top two speed settings: 3 for small and 4 for big wheels.  It will take a little effort to change the warping from a hard shell to a soft one, but it is worth it.

Try to set up your wheel as flat on top as possible. Also, ensure plenty of space between the curb and your feet when you put it on slow speed.

If you cannot get a flat surface on top, go to the bottom speed, which puts less of an angle on the wheel and will still give you a softer material than a hard shell requires.
Keep Your Feet ParallelYou can use your back feet to adjust your angle, but make sure that you bring both feet together when going forward.

This helps keep the wheels parallel and makes shifting from one side or the other easier.

If you have one foot fixed and the other toe is out of line, it will only exacerbate the wobble caused by uneven wheels.
Lean ForwardIf you are leaning back, the wheel will put more pressure on your toes and tends to cause a wider arc that is less efficient and unstable.
Tighten Your StrapsFirmly tighten your straps, but be careful not to over-tighten them. Stand on the Onewheel with both feet and tighten to feels secure without putting too much pressure on your feet or toes.

Do 12v Lithium Batteries Need A Special Charger?

Yes! 12v lithium batteries need a special charger designed to function correctly. This also means you want to avoid mixing them up with any other types of batteries and charge them with a generic charger.

Understanding what makes 12v lithium batteries different from other 12v batteries is essential.

Lithium-ion battery chargers have the potential to function differently than those for nickel-metal-hydride or lead acid cells due to the complexity of their chemistry.

This is why you need a special charger explicitly designed for lithium-ion to ensure their proper functioning.

A lithium-ion charger has to boast the ability to detect the chemical makeup of the battery, ideally through a built-in microprocessor.

This processor can examine the charge it provides and determine what function you would require for optimum charging.

Only then will it be able to give a proper charge, utilizing amps that are safe regarding the battery’s chemistry.

Conversely, a generic charger will apply too many or too few amps, causing irreversible damage over time.

Should I buy a Onewheel Pint or XR?

Without a processor, you must set up the charger to apply 1-2 amps per cell, a setting that will cause irrevocable damage over time if you use it on a lithium-ion battery.

Now that you have all the information, you should be ready to buy your first Onewheel. Remember that riding is fun, and you will have a blast.

Whether riding on concrete or dirt, knowing how to ride your Onewheel will make your experience much more enjoyable.
